Oriental small-clawed otters mate for life and both parents help to rear their pups. Living in small groups, they use up to twelve different calls to communicate with each other.
They are excellent hunters. Even in murky water their whiskers pick up vibrations as small as the flicker of a fish's tail. Their sensitive toes help them feel for shellfish and other food in the mud.
