Fiordland penguins spend majority of their life at sea. They are native to New Zealand but sometimes turn up on Australian coastlines.
During the breeding season, Fiordland penguins come ashore on the coast of New Zealand's South Island. This rugged coastline and surrounding islands provide dense vegetation and shelter.

Their enclosure is large and is similar to that of the otter's, only instead of having rocky surfaces, there is sand and some large plants so the penguins can have a bit of privacy.
The size of the Fiordland penguin is roughly the same size as a 30cm ruler. Their body covering consists of thousands of feathers that help the penguin glide through the water with ease.
